About the Project
Gif Art Archive is an academic research and digital preservation initiative dedicated to the study, documentation, and dissemination of animated GIF art and its creators.
The project is developed as part of a doctoral research programme by Alejandra Florez Torres in collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). Its purpose is to contribute to the understanding of the animated GIF as an artistic medium while supporting the preservation of digital cultural heritage.
Commitment to Ethical Research
Gif Art Archive is guided by principles of academic integrity, transparency, respect, and responsible research practice.
The project strives to ensure that all participants are informed about the purpose of the research, how their information will be used, and what rights they have regarding their participation.
Participation in the project is entirely voluntary.
Informed Participation
Artists contributing to Gif Art Archive are provided with clear information regarding:
- the aims of the research;
- the type of information being collected;
- how submitted information may be used;
- the conditions under which artworks may be displayed;
- their rights as participants.
By completing the project’s forms, participants provide informed consent for the use of their information under the conditions described in the relevant documentation.
Respect for Artists and Authorship
Gif Art Archive recognizes artists as the rightful authors and copyright holders of their work.
The project does not claim ownership over any submitted artwork.
All artworks remain the intellectual property of their respective creators. Any display, reproduction, or preservation of artworks within the archive is carried out solely for academic, educational, cultural, and non-commercial purposes, and only with the participant’s authorization.
Proper attribution will be maintained whenever artworks are presented within the archive.
Data Protection and Privacy
The project is committed to protecting the privacy of participants and handling personal information responsibly.
Personal data collected through research questionnaires are used exclusively for academic research, statistical analysis, documentation, and archival purposes.
Information collected through research forms is not publicly displayed on the website unless explicitly authorized by the participant.
Reasonable measures are taken to safeguard personal information and to limit access to research data to those involved in the project where necessary.
Right to Withdraw
Participation in Gif Art Archive is voluntary, and participants may withdraw their consent at any time.
Artists may request:
- correction of inaccurate information;
- removal of personal information where applicable;
- removal of artworks from public display on the website;
- withdrawal from future participation in the project.

Preservation and Long-Term Access
